Key stage 1 & 2

Key Stage 1 & 2 Provision (Ages 6–11)

Our Key Stage 1 & 2 provision is an outdoor-led, equine and animal assisted alternative provision for pupils who are unable to attend school full-time, experience anxiety or emotional barriers to learning, or require a highly individualised and flexible approach to education and support.

We offer one-to-one, short-term placements that prioritise stabilisation, emotional regulation, and the gradual reintroduction of learning through hands-on, outdoor and experiential approaches. Learning alongside horses and other animals provides a calm, purposeful environment that helps children feel safe, regulated, and ready to engage. This approach is particularly effective for children who find traditional classroom environments overwhelming, restrictive, or disengaging.

Provision includes:

  • Personalised timetables aligned to individual needs and EHCP outcomes
  • Structured 3-hour sessions that promote routine, consistency, and engagement
  • A balanced, flexible curriculum delivered primarily outdoors, incorporating:
    • Equine-assisted learning and animal care activities
    • Targeted Maths and English tutoring embedded into practical tasks
    • Creative arts and music
    • Outdoor learning and forest-school-inspired activities

Our equine and animal assisted outdoor learning supports children to learn in a calmer, less pressured environment, helping to:

  • Reduce anxiety, stress, and sensory overload
  • Improve emotional regulation, attention, and focus
  • Increase motivation, engagement, and willingness to learn
  • Develop confidence, responsibility, and independence through meaningful, real-life experiences

Learning is embedded through movement, nature-based activities, caring for animals, and practical problem-solving. This enables children to build skills at their own pace while feeling safe, supported, and successful.

Our approach supports children to:

  • Rebuild trust in adults and form positive, secure relationships
  • Develop emotional resilience, self-confidence, and self-regulation
  • Improve readiness for learning and classroom reintegration
  • Transition successfully back to their on-roll school or an appropriate specialist setting

Our outdoor learning programme can be shared with professionals/organisations upon request.
