Key stage 3 & 4

Key Stage 3 & 4 Provision (Ages 11–16)

Our Key Stage 3 & 4 provision is an outdoor-led, equine and animal assisted alternative provision for young people experiencing persistent non-attendance, anxiety around school, additional needs, low self-esteem, or emotional and mental health barriers to learning.

This provision focuses on re-engagement, achievement, and progression, using practical, hands-on learning in an outdoor environment to help young people reconnect with education and routine, develop confidence, and experience success while working towards clearly defined outcomes.

Provision includes:

  • 1:1 sessions (1–2 hours), with flexibility based on individual need and capacity
  • A named key worker/mentor to provide consistency, structure, and trusted adult support
  • Equine-assisted education and animal care as a core learning pathway
  • Practical, outdoor learning opportunities embedded across sessions
  • Access to the AQA Unit Award Scheme, enabling accreditation and measurable achievement
  • Ongoing support for physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing

Young people take part in structured, purposeful activities including horse care, riding (where appropriate), stable management, animal welfare tasks, and real-life problem-solving. These activities promote responsibility, resilience, confidence, and the development of transferable life and employability skills.

Where appropriate, small group or joint sessions are offered to support social development, communication skills, and positive peer interaction, particularly for young people who may be socially isolated or have limited opportunities to socialise.
